1. Kitchen Island
Our island is the anchor of the kitchen. I chose black to offset the white of the outer cabinets. Also, black adds an element of uniqueness in that it really makes the island look like a piece of furniture in the room rather than a part of the cabinetry. Which, in my opinion, is more aligned with the “farmhouse” style of the rest of our home. I also chose to mix metals and put brushed nickel pulls on the island. The best part of the island is the custom wood top we had made for it. When we compared the prices for granite vs. wood, wood was much more economical. I wouldn’t have had it any other way! This island is totally a conversation piece, and it might be my FAVORITE part of the whole house.
2. Farm Sink
I did a LOT of research on this thing before we decided to just do it. I had my reservations about installing a farm sink because of the reviews and blog posts I had read about how difficult they can be to install, but my handy hubby just KNEW that I would regret not getting one and really encouraged me to just let him do it. And yep, he did it himself. I wont say that it was a quick process, because it certainly WAS NOT, but I decided to live by the mantra that all good things take time when it came to this farm sink install. He had to navigate some structural things to install it to make sure it had enough support underneath, and once he did that it was fairly simple! The sink we installed is a Blanco fireclay sink, so it is SUPER heavy. But so so so worth it!
3. Under sink drawer
One of the things I read prior to deciding to install the farm sink was that you have to be prepared to adjust the height of your cabinet doors under the sink because of how deep it is. Some people shared they disliked that you lost a lot of cabinet space underneath the sink. We decided to install a drawer under the sink so that we could still access as much space underneath as possible. And it is disguised as just another cabinet. I just love how I can store whatever I want and I don’t have to go searching for it up under the sink!
